Challenge

A sovereign tribal nation recognized the need for a dedicated, modern technology space where members—both elders and youth—could access tools for education, creativity, and personal development. Without such a facility, members faced barriers to digital literacy, online services, and opportunities for intellectual growth.

Leadership wanted a solution that would be:

• Modern & Professional: Equipped with up-to-date Apple systems designed for longevity and performance.
• Accessible & Inclusive: Welcoming to both youth seeking education and elders seeking digital engagement.
• Secure & Sustainable: Managed in partnership with the internal IT team to ensure safety, reliability, and ongoing usability.

Approach

DeSoto collaborated with the tribe’s internal IT staff to design and implement a 10-station Apple guest lab tailored to the community’s unique needs. The project included:

• Technology Design: Selected Mac desktops configured with performance, accessibility, and security in mind.
• Collaborative Build: Worked alongside the tribal IT team to set up, network, and secure the lab for daily use.
• User Accessibility: Ensured the lab was configured to support a wide range of needs—from schoolwork and research to creative projects and communication.
• Knowledge Transfer: Trained internal IT and community staff to manage updates, security, and user access.
• Cultural Fit: Designed the lab environment to be inviting and respectful, making it a place members want to return to.

• The guest lab has become a vibrant space for the community:
